Strawberry with Blossom
Strawberry with Blossom
The inspiration to create these strawberries came from a chapter about them in Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book Braiding Sweetgrass. She shares wise teachings of the Anishnaabe people, and describes as a scientist how strawberries spread and grow in their environment. The image of strawberries at the end of the season sending out runners to establish new plants has left a lasting impression. So often the spread and subsequent growth of plants happens under the soil, and we don’t get to see it up above. And so, these strawberries in particular model the gift of visible growth, and of reaching out to establish deeper connections.
A cluster of summer strawberries shown in full ripeness, with a few leaves and a blossom to suggest that more berries are on their way.
This is a handmade item. The leaves, blossoms and buds are all made with handpainted crepe paper, and wired for shape and longevity.
