Bearded Iris

Bearded Iris

CA$355.00

Irises have a beautiful symbolic history. The Greek goddess Iris (whose presence on earth would appear as a rainbow) was seen as a link between heaven and earth, and the chance to receive messages from the gods above. For this reason an iris represents long journeys, the messages contained within, and new beginnings. Sometimes you’ll see clusters of irises engraved on headstones as way to help guide the departed into the afterlife.

A single stem of a bearded iris shown in full bloom.

This is a handmade item. The bloom is made of polymer clay with multiple layers of colour painted onto the petals by hand. The leaves and spathe are made with handpainted crepe paper. Each element is wired for shape and longevity.

It is displayed freestanding on a modern and elegant solid wood base. The sphere is painted in a shade of deep blue-green. The bottom foot of the base is painted with a lustrous gold wax, and is weighted to easily display the flower. It is signed on the bottom of the base with a gold wax seal, embossed with the Golden Age logo.
