learn the art of noticing

Creating a favourite flower in paper adds a fresh beauty to what already grows in nature, while also showing you the power of your own actions as your transform paper into petals. Workshops focus on a single flower, teaching you how to colour and sculpt a flower’s petals with crepe paper, how to create realistic looking centres, and to finish your bloom with leaves and other botanical details. The work is challenging but rewarding, and doesn’t require any previous experience. All skill levels can be accommodated through a teaching style that is both inquisitive and encouraging.

Workshops begin with a group study of a live flower, pointing out its various botanical details and their purposes, and an open offer to share your own connection or relationship to the flower. By working from a live flower, you learn the art of noticing: how to render complexity into an interpretation that is distinctly your own.

Beyond learning the skill of paper flower making, workshops contain a hopeful encouragement to see the world around you differently through noticing details that might have previously been missed.

hosting a workshop

Though based in Toronto, travelling to teach your workshop is certainly an option, and it can be customized too. When working with a host, I consider the workshop to be developed in collaboration with you. Classes are 3 - 4 hours long for a single flower, with a break in the middle of class.

Longer workshops can certainly be accommodated, and are perfect for intimate retreat environments where multiple flowers can be taught over the course of a day. Wellness spaces can allow for workshops focused on flowers linked to healing and protection, and botanical gardens or flower shops can host workshops that are centred on current programming or flowers that are seasonally inspired. Groups of friends are also welcome, as paper flowers can be an enjoyable way to deepen bonds through shared experience.

We can work together to determine a theme and flower that’s perfectly suited for you!
